The Fate of Iris

In Greek mythology, Iris was the daughter of Thaumas and the ocean nymph Electra and one of the Oceanids, the personification of the rainbow and messenger of the gods. As the rainbow unites Earth and heaven, Iris was the messenger of the gods to men.

colors!

promises should be kept! i promised a friend of mine that i will try to change the tone of my blogs. i understand that my previous blogs were too melancholic and there is a need to add colors! and what could be a better time than this .....Holi has just gone by and though this place has no colors spilling around, but the color of life doesnt die out!
my stay in the US has been for three months and slowly but surely i am liking the place. i am not sure whether it can replace home, but there is something about the place which has made a distinct mark in my life. few days ago we celebrated Holi, though not in the traditional sense. back in India we would spend a good part of the day playing colors and getting drenched. mud baths in the hostel were sometime scary but it was fun. the rest of the week will be an effort to remove all the colors so that no more shirts go bad. sweets, visits to friends' place living in Delhi was a must. i never really had bhaang but scotch was available. its been years since i played Holi with my parents and cousins, but all the guys and gals in my friends' circle made sure that no one felt home sick on that day. had gone to vibhor's place once, that is in Bareily, man! the festival of colors has a whole new dimension there. i have never ever seen more crazy colors playing anywhere else and probably never will.
here in Orlando, we didnt play colors. i dont have an idea where colors for Holi is available in the US ? if someone reading this blog knows about it.. please do let me know! the day started with me going to office for some work. had a report to be submitted and a couple of meetings. the day was tiring. went to a temple nearby. a sea of Indians could be seen and everyone was having a good time there. talked to my parents. had a drink at night and then slept off. you would think what a pathetic Holi i had. but believe me i had a good day. it was an altogether new experince to have a Holi without colors. the primary thing is the spirit. just as i used to enjoy the colors in India, i enjoyed the work here. the day ended with a good drink with my friends. may sound a bit cliched, but all is well that ends well!
well!....Iris enjoyed her first Holi with me. may be one day she is India during the Holi and am sure she would enjoy the colors too!
